Two athletes broke school records at the first track and field meet on Apr. 4.

Addison McClelland, a 7th grade student, competed in high jump and scored the highest jump out of all the 7th and 8th graders on the Granville team. “I cleared 4’4” but got out on 4’6”,” McClelland said.

Bode Shoaps, an 8th grade student, broke the record for long jump. He jumped 18 feet and 5 inches. The most challenging thing about this meet was “going against really good teams,” Shoaps said.

They are just getting the season started and have several tough competitors ahead of them with four meets left. 

“I think our biggest struggle will be companionship,” 7th grader Emma Treece said. “We work well together, but not everyone gets along with one another.” 

Each player can contribute to the team by helping others. 

“I think that I contribute support and leadership to the track team,” 7th grader Ivy Miller said. “I always encourage others and push them to work harder.” 

The track team is coached by Renee Hailey, Susan Day, Tim Dunham and Jamie Rogovine. 

The next meet is next week. Show up to cheer them on.
