Basketball world takes to ‘bubble’

The whole world has drastically been changed by the coronavirus and has effected everybody with sports being no exception. As many seasons were postponed, people wondered how long sports and basketball in particular would be gone and as athletes as well as fans awaited in quarantine, executives for respected leagues devised plans for the resuming of their seasons. The result, the bubbled worlds that have taken shape and that we as fans have become accustomed to. There have been multiple takes on the bubble format, most notably being the intriguing NBA bubble where players are quarantined in Disney World in Orlando.

Now, compared to the ways we have grown used to enjoying the star studded basketball league, the bubble format certainly have brought a curve of excitement as well as anticipation. As far as the unique seasons have gone however, little error has taken place and players have seemingly enjoyed their bubble visits as they continue their season.

The NBA bubble, which is perhaps the most notable due to their already highly popular platform is one of the most interesting and even has served as a blueprint for other leagues. From the Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler and his now infamous coffee stand to the popular video game (NBA 2K20) replica barbershop, the NBA bubble is seemingly embracing the reality of our global situation and is full of excitement. Their strict rules regarding testing and the social actions of the players is also very important and adds to the high marks on the NBA’s behalf. Players were quarantined when they arrived and have since been tested and locked off from the rest of the country as the league successfully continues to monitor the Covid situation and prevent positive tests and outbreaks. Overall, the NBA has handled the 2020 predicament almost flawlessly and as they continues through the playoffs, the success of the bubble and preventing the spread of the coronavirus is highlighted.

From the perspective of actually viewing the sport itself, the NBA has also done an incredible job of catering the games to fans while still bringing the atmosphere of a normal game to the players. Perhaps the most noticeable piece is the ever changing panel of fans that are “present” at the game on the big screen. These fans range from famous celebrities and super fans to everyday people trying to be apart of this crazy season. During games the NBA has also succeeded in enforcing social distancing as seen in the massive and spread out bench areas as well as make the games seem like they are under the big lights with the big displays of highlights and graphic that also cater to the thousands of fans watching from home.

The NBA bubble season is now in the final stages as the Finals are taking place between Lebron’s LA Lakers and Jimmy Butler’s Miami Heat. Overall, the NBA has handled the 2020 predicament almost flawlessly and as they continues through the playoffs, the success of the bubble and preventing the spread of the coronavirus is highlighted.
