The field hockey team is warming up their season with a record of 3-1-2. With the addition of two new coaches, the team is hoping to have a record-breaking season.
“It has been going pretty well,” said Mrs. Bobbi Seidell. “One of our 3 wins was against Bexley. This is the first time in program history we have beaten Bexley. The win took place at Bexley, too.”
Seidell shares coaching duties with Mrs. Tara Parsley. Both have goals for the team this year.
“We want the girls to have a positive experience,” Seidell said. “We want them to better their skills from the beginning of the season to the end of the season. Of course, we also to try to beat last years record.”
This years team is very senior heavy with 10 seniors playing, 2 of whom have been 4-year starters.
One of the seniors, Sarah Ahrendt, is excited about this season.
“We are hoping for a winning record as well as a better scoring average on the corner plays,” Ahrendt said.
The team will also be hosting their first ever benefit game. On Sept. 19 from 11-4 Granville will be playing in a triple-header against Mt. Notre Dame and St. Ursila Academy to benefit JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). The event is called Drive Out Type 1, and it is meant to bring awareness about Type 1 diabetes. They will sell $10 t-shirts and all of the funds will go directly to the JDRF.
