Every aspect of Gunther’s character is extremely necessary for this show. Without him, we would seriously be missing important plot details including Rachel finding out about Ross’s big mistake, Joey working at the cafe and Gunther being in love with Rachel. I also just simply find Gunther very entertaining and for both of these reasons, he has to be number one on the list.

Janice is simply the most iconic side character in this show. Her addition to the show is obvious and I cannot imagine the show without her obnoxious laugh nor her hilarious personality. Her being second on the list is just correct.

Richard is truly one of the best significant others of any character in the show and if it weren’t for Chandler, he would have been the one for Monica. Their relationship added a lot to the show and to not only Monica’s character but to Monica and Chandler’s relationship. This rating may be controversial as some may think he is the best side character.

Whenever there’s an episode with Judy in it I know two things; that it will be interesting and that we will learn more information about Monica and Ross. Also what is vital about Judy is her relationship with Monica, without being able to see this, understanding Monica would be very difficult.

As Monica and Ross’s dad, Jack adds important information and details to the show. Along with this, his friendship with Richard is what brings Monica and Richard together to begin with. Without him, many side plots may have never happened.

As Joey’s manager, we see her often throughout the show, and with her character the needed information about how Joey is sometimes not successful as an actor is prevalent. Not to mention the fact that her character is extremely hilarious.

Alice is an extremely funny character as she is Frank Jr.’s wife. The side plot of her and Frank Jr asking Phoebe for her to carry their children is extremely vital to many aspects of the show. Without her, I don’t know who Frank Jr. or Phoebe would be.

Phoebe having a twin adds to the unknown that is her past. Throughout the whole series, we never truly see the whole story that is Phoebe Buffay and her having a twin just makes it more interesting. Not to mention just how weird Ursula’s character is. Her being on the list is quite obvious and necessary.

Frank Jr. is just one small piece to Phoebe’s confusing and unspecified past. His presence adds a really interesting plotline of Phoebe being pregnant and without it, her character would lose a necessary aspect.

Marcel the monkey, what fun memories and moments he brought us. I don’t necessarily like Marcel but I believe that the show would be vastly different without him and that he adds an element to Ross’s character which continuously forces the watcher to understand how weird he is. Because of these two factors, Marcel has to be on the list.
