Miller, whose son Sharkey is a junior, has been a stay at home mom. Prior to becoming a mother she had a variety of careers.
“I was a homemaker for a long time, primarily, but I also served on the Licking County Board of Elections, and before that I was a chef,” Melinda Miller said.
Miller decided to apply when she saw the position open on the website. She put in her resume and got an interview.
“It was just a substitute position that was posted… then I came in for an interview with the director of HR, and at that time, he let me know that they were also looking for a building sub,” Miller said.
Miller might be down in the lunch room or jump in a classroom at the last minute.
“Flexibility, a good sense of professionalism…somebody who understands the position and is willing to pick up and do anything,” Principal Scott Hinton said.
In addition to her regular duties, Miller, who is completing a 200 hour nine month yoga certification class at Granville yoga, is also assisting the new gym teacher with the Yoga class.
“I would say, it’s awesome,” Hinton said.
