The actors scramble across the set brandishing their neon clothes. They review their lines and work diligently to get ready for the play. It may be 2025, but on stage it sure feels like the 80s.
The drama club will perform “Back to the 80’s” by Dean O’Caroll Feb. 7-8 in the high school theater. “Back to the 80’s” is an amalgamation of 80s pop culture references that everyone is sure to recognize.
According to drama director Sara Rodocker, “Back to the 80’s” is a parody of the hit movie “Back to the Future.”
“Instead of going to the future they accidentally go back to the 80’s,” Rodocker said.
While this play is a fun parody, Rodocker found the casting process difficult.
“There’s almost 140 characters and we have a cast of about 40,” Rodocker said.
Behind the scenes, the actors are working very hard with multiple rehearsals to make sure the performance is ready in time.
“All of the cast is working hard, and I think I’m most excited to see how much the play improves from the first rehearsal to the performance,” sophomore drama student Andrew Busack said.
However, Andrew is not the only one excited for this play,
“I was excited for all the plays this year but especially for this play, maybe just because I’m an 80’s kid, but I am very excited,” Principal Scott Hinton said.
The price for entry is $10 per ticket, and further information about purchasing can be found on the theater page of the district website.
