The week of love and relationships. Many enjoy Valentine’s week with flowers, chocolates and rom-com movies. Some of the top favorites are “10 Things I Hate About You,” “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days,” “500 Days of Summer,” “She’s The Man” and “Sweet Home Alabama.”
“10 Things I Hate About You”
“10 Things I Hate About You” is not your typical love story. It follows a teenage girl named Kat Stratford (Julia Styles) who is very opinionated and tends to be odd. Kat Stratford’s younger sister Bianca is a popular, attractive girl, seeking a boyfriend. There’s a problem though. They are not allowed to date. Their father makes a new rule that states “If Kat gets a boyfriend then Bianca can date,” which leads Bianca to pay someone to date Kat. The story follows an “unlovable” girl who starts to catch feelings. Will the secret come out? Will they fall in love?

“How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days”
“How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days” focuses on a girl writing an article on how to lose a guy in 10 days. She chooses a guy who is also experimenting with her about love and diamonds for the marketing firm he works at. Throughout the movie, love anger, and realization all happen. The movie keeps you on your toes while having a comedic relief. I would definitely say my favorite out of all of these is “How to lose a guy in 10 days”. The movie fills you with joy but also breaks your heart in a way.

“500 Days of Summer”
“500 Days of Summer” focuses on a guy named Tom Hansen who has a crush on a female coworker named Summer. At first, he believes nothing is going to happen. He pushes himself to become more noticeable and find a way to talk and see her more. He goes through a whirlwind of emotions. Will they fall in love? This movie takes you through a wall of emotions with tears and laughter. Will Tom Hansen succeed or fall short?

“She’s the Man”
“She’s the Man” focuses on a girl named Viola whose soccer team got cut from her school. Now there’s only a man’s team so she decides to act like her brother and play on the team as a guy. While doing so she finds an attraction to Duke the star boys soccer player, but everyone believes she is a man. How will she get Duke’s attention? Will they ever find out the truth?

“Sweet Home Alabama”
“Sweet Home Alabama” focuses on a girl named Melanie Smooter who’s about to get married. She’s now rich and a popular fashion designer, but she has to go back to her old country town in Alabama to divorce her ex-husband, Jake Perry. She spends time with him after years of not seeing each other and a spark happens from their re-connection. Decisions are made, feelings are hurt, but the love is never lost. Will they end up together forever? Or have an end to their love?

All of these movies are believed to be some of the best rom-coms of the early 2000s. They have an upbeat and loving story that makes you want to watch them for days on end. My personal favorite is “How to Lose a guy in 10 Days” but all of the movies are a must-watch if you want to get into romantic comedies
