After beating Elida 58-54 in the regional semifinal on Feb. 26, the girls basketball team (24-2) will be moving on to the “Elite Eight.” They will be playing against the No. 1 seed team, Notre Dame Academy, in the OHSAA DIII Regional Final on Mar. 1 at Bluffton University.
Overall, the team is “hype” and ready to bust out of the locker room and win the regional title that hasn’t been won by Granville since 1994.
“This game is a surreal moment knowing that it could be my last game, so every second I’m in the game I’m giving it my all that I have,” senior Megan Lodge said.
All season, the team has been preparing for this tournament and “moving forward to the next big thing,” according to sophomore Elle Mortimer.
“It’s all about getting hyped and leaving it all on the court,” Mortimer said.
Granville is currently ranked 1st in the Buckeye Conference and 2nd in overall Division III Girls Basketball. This season they have won the Licking County League championship against Newark Catholic with a score of 43-28. This season has also been a marker of the 8th consecutive year of the Buckeye-LCL title claimed by Granville and the 5th consecutive district title.
