Released in late June of 2000, White Pony was the third album released by the Deftones. It quickly gained popularity with “Change (In the House of Flies)” and “Back to School” becoming crowd favorites. Students have described White Pony as “a nu metal album that blends heavy iconic riffs with a bit of a shoegaze-esque feel.” This album has a very alternative and introspective feel that most listeners can relate to or enjoy as the lead singer, Chino Moreno, brings the lyrics together with a melodic and “somewhat haunting feel.” The Deftones have been known to occasionally collaborate with other prominent artists like Serj Tankian from System of a Down who appeared in the 2006 Album, Saturday Night Wrist in the song “Mein”. In one of White Pony’s most successful songs, “Passenger”, singer Maynard James Keenan from Tool sang alongside Chino Moreno creating a deep and gritty contrast to the rest of the song which is sung in a harsh whisper. Since their the release of their of their debut album, (Like) Linus, in 1993, Deftones have released eight other albums including Adrenaline, Around the Fur, Deftones (self titles), Saturday Night Wrist, Diamond Eyes, Koi No Yokan, Gore, and Ohms, alongside other EPs, covers, and singles, all released over the course of two decades.
