Released in 1995, the Band’s self titled album, 311, was their third studio release. The band was formed in 1988 by vocalist Nick Hexum, Bassist Aaron Wills (P-nut), Guitarist Jim Watson, and Drummer Chad Sexton. The group would later be joined in 1992 by another vocalist, Doug Martinez. This album was sort of like their mainstream break through, and was unique in the fact that it was recorded live, with all members playing at once in contrast to their two previous albums, which recorded each of the parts separately. This album housed one of the most popular 311 songs, Down, which features heavy guitar distortion with a funky tone and vocals that are reminiscent of a summer day in Southern California. Down received lots of airtime on MTV, and on popular radio stations. The group has had a commendable run, putting out a staggering 14 studio albums and 2 live albums, alongside several EPs and singles.
