NIC’S SPORT REPORT: March Madness

BY NIC MORK (’15)

March Madness is approaching and college basketball fans are starting to get excited about the coming weeks, which will bring the most exciting time of basketball of the year.  Some sports fans argue that the March Madness time is the best time in sports of the whole year.  Ohio State is coming off a difficult season, although a Sweet sixteen berth would make fans forget about the difficult season that they have had.

This basketball season has been the season of Kentucky who has been the first team to go undefeated in the regular season in decades.  Although the Wildcats have had many tough close games, so there are many people who think they will not be able to run the field and end the season being undefeated.

Columbus, Ohio, and the state of Ohio will be able to see lots of games, Columbus is hosting first and second round games, while Cleveland will be the host of a Midwest regional final.  Dayton has always had 2 preliminary games to figure out the last two teams in the field of 64.

Ohio college teams have recently had success with getting upwards of five or six teams making it into the final tournament. It was only three years ago when Ohio had four representatives to advance into the sweet 16, the teams being Ohio State, Cincinnati, Xavier, and Ohio University.  Ohio was the first state to be able to accomplish this feat.

This year Ohio State, Dayton, and Cincinnati look to be the teams advancing to the field of 64.  Dayton was able to knock off Ohio State in the first round last year.  So the Buckeyes need a good run into the tournament. Dayton looks to advance in one of the first four games, some critics have said they think it is unfair that the Dayton will play in their own home court which provides them with an unfair advantage.

This March Madness looks to be an exciting one without any real favorites for the tournament besides Kentucky.  The tournament is bound to be full with plenty of sleepers.
