‘Stranger Things’, stranger theories

*Spoilers ahead*

With the first batch of “Stranger Things” season 5 releasing not long ago, and the next four episodes soon to come out over break, there has been a nonstop buzz over the hit T.V. series. With so much excitement building, it’s only to be expected that there are many theories circulating around online. These theories range from characters coming back to life all the way to potential secret traitors. In this article we will be diving into many of these theories and I will be giving my opinion on them and how likely I think they are to occur. So strap in because things are about to get strange.

Theory 1: Eddie Munson will come back as a vampire in the upside down

Now I’ll start right out of the gate with this one and say I think that this is nigh impossible. I mean, we pretty much see Eddie bleed out in Dustin’s arms at the end of season 4. There is also no proof that the demobats can transform people into vampires. I chalk this one up to people simply loving Eddie and trying to come up with any way for him to potentially still be alive. If we do see any of Eddie, I think it will be one of Vecna’s visions like how he shows Billy to Max in season 4.

Theory 2: Will is going to become a traitor

This theory is most definitely an interesting one, and I hate to admit it, but I could actually see it happening. Now, I don’t think that Will would intentionally betray everyone, if it does happen I think it will be because of his connection to the hive mind and the mind flayer. The end of episode 4 with Will unlocking his powers has only made this theory even more likely. Also, Vecna deciding to leave Will alive in episode 4 also makes the theory seem even more plausible as it appears his usefulness to him has not exhausted itself yet.

Theory 3: Hopper will become police chief again

This theory is a little more boring than the others, but is still an interesting idea. Due to recent set photos that have shown Hopper back in his police uniform, people are speculating that he could get his old job back. I could definitely see this happening to become a full circle moment bringing us back to the beginning of the series.

Theory 4: Steve Harrington will die

I’m sure many people have seen the videos of “POV: Smashing my T.V. on Christmas morning when Steve Harrington dies”, I know I have. This has been the theory I’ve seen circulating around the most, and the one I’ve seen the most drama over. The main idea of this theory is just that Steve has gone on this incredible redemption arc from season 1 and the perfect way to wrap it up would be for him to die saving the others. I could see It happening for sure but I also think the Duffer Brothers know that the public outrage would be on a global scale and would be hesitant to do so.

Theory 5: The whole thing has been a game of D&D from season 1

This theory is pretty crazy and would massively outrage many fans. It essentially is the idea that everything that has happened since season 1 when we see Dustin, Mike, Will, and Lucas playing their game of Dungeons and Dragons, has been their campaign and at the end of season 5 we will flash all the way back revealing none of it has been real. I think this is incredibly unlikely considering that this ending would be very unsatisfying and also since the Duffer Brothers have specifically renounced the idea.

Theory 6: Vecna is not the final villain

This is my personal favorite theory that I’ve seen circulating around and one that I actually believe to be true. With the introduction of more of Henry’s backstory in volume 1, and more of it to come in volume 2, we know for sure that the mind flayer has existed for far longer. It is an ancient being, and I don’t think that it would just fold over when El sent Henry to the upside down. I think that secretly, this entire time, the mind flayer has actually been in control of Vecna and has been hiding it from everyone. It just doesn’t make sense to me how this eldritch being whose powers revolve around control, would be controlled by Vecna.
