The boys’, girls’ and symphonic choirs continued their streaks of dominance with resounding performances at the state choir competition on April 23.

The competition was held at Gahanna High School, and all three groups earned a 1 rating, the highest possible through the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA).

The OMEA  grades on a 1-5 scale, with 1 being the top score and 5 being the low score. The OMEA website describes a 1 performance as “an outstanding performance with very few technical errors and exemplifying a truly musical expression. This rating should be reserved for the truly outstanding performance.”

“We were the best school there; we usually are,” senior low bass Colin Mulford said.

Although thrilled, Mulford wasn’t necessarily surprised by their superior rating. “We earned 1’s last year so expected to do well again this year,” he said.

Mulford was proud that his effort had paid off.

“We worked hard for a 1 rating and it felt good to accomplish our goal.”
