Academic Team

Advisers: Mr. Wait & Mr. Masters

The academic competition team for students grades 9-12 practices weekly throughout the year. The team competes in the Mid-State Academic League, at various weekend knowledge-based tournaments, and on WOSU-TV’s “In the Know.” All students interested in competing in knowledge-based competitions are encouraged to come out for the team!
Art Club

Adviser: Miss Tinnel

GHS Art Club is a community of students who work together to produce projects that facilitate student friendships and improve the school through art making.
Asian Culture Club

Adviser: Mrs. Schnabel

Asian club is open to any student interested in learning more about Asian culture! Asian club will help educate students at Granville High School about Asian cultures, customs, and holidays through research and open discussions. This club will also be a place where students can share experiences or concerns with others who may have similar experiences involving race. We will learn about Asian heritage and support our Asian student population by supporting and celebrating their culture.
Astronomy Club

Adviser: Mr. Bait

Astronomy Club is an inclusive group of students who are interested in studying and learning more about the celestial objects that inhabit our universe as well as the ancient history and stories for the patterns of the sky. We mostly do observations at the intermediate school with Mr. Bait involving telescopes and binoculars!

Best Buddies: School Friendship

Adviser: Mrs. Parsley

Best Buddies School Friendship chapters build one-to-one friendships between students with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), offering social inclusion for a population that is often isolated and excluded. Through their participation, students form connections with their peers, gain self-confidence, and share interests
and experiences.

Blue Ace Book Club

Advisers: Mrs. VanValkenburg & Mrs. Garee

The Granville High School Book Club is open to all students 9-12. There are two groups that meet during the separate lunch periods, and meetings will happen 1-2 times per month. Book choice will be determined by the students in each group, and varying genres will be read throughout the year. Meetings take place in the library.
Blue Ace Media

Adviser: Mrs. Tolbert

Blue Ace Media is the official online newspaper of Granville High School, delivering timely, student-centered news on school events, sports, arts, and student life. Our mission is to inform, engage, and inspire while upholding high journalistic standards. Although primarily produced by students in Multimedia Journalism, all Granville High School students are welcome to contribute writing, photography, or creative work. Blue Ace Media is published at blueacemedia.org under adviser Mrs. Amy Tolbert. The 2025

Blue Steel Drum Band

Adviser: Mr. Krumm

This is a high energy ensemble that is dedicated to entertainment and
excellence. Members meet 2-4 days per week depending. Rehearsals are
from 7:05 to 7:45 a.m. The band performs at concerts and community
events throughout the year. Members must belong to one
of the major performing ensembles (concert bands, orchestras, or choirs)
to participate.
Blue & White Yearbook

Advisor: Mrs. Tolbert

The Blue & White Yearbook is Granville High School’s official annual publication, capturing the memories, milestones, and moments that make each school year unique. Delivered in the fall, it features student life, academics, athletics, arts, and special events through the eyes of the Granville community. Produced by students enrolled in Publications, a full-year course, and published under the guidance of adviser Amy Tolbert, the Blue & White is a student-driven project that welcomes contributions from all students. The 2025 editor-in-chief is MacKenzie BeVier. Order your copy

Chess Club

Advisers: Mrs. Garee & Mrs.VanValkenburg

Chess Club is open to any students in high school and middle school. Anyone who wants to learn how to play chess, play chess for fun, or even just socialize and watch others' chess games can come to the meetings. We are open to all skill levels, and there will always been someone of equal skill to play against. We teach all beginners. Meetings are once every week
in the library, and there are no obligations to attend every meeting. Chess Club is a place to have fun and learn a little in the process too.
Competitive Math League

Adviser: Mr. Kieffer

The GHS Math Team is a place where all students who enjoy math come
together. We practice problem-solving techniques and learn advanced math
concepts in a fun and friendly environment in preparation for local,
state, and national math competitions. Our goal is that you will learn new
skills beyond the classroom, enjoy mathematics, expand your analytical
skills, and make friends with other math enthusiasts.
Creative Writing

Adviser: Mr. Mullins

This club is for students of all grade levels and writing abilities to write,
share ideas, and collaborate with others. Students explore different
genres of writing and experiment with various writing techniques. Students
are encouraged to share and/or publish their writing. Above all, students are
supported in a positive environment as they craft and develop their own
writing. The club usually meets at least 2x per month.

Crochet Club

Adviser: Mrs. Fortner

Love to crochet? Always wanted to learn? Join crochet club and learn to
crochet or spend time with other crocheter learning new stitches and
sharing patterns and ideas. Toward the end of the year we will use our talents to make items for a local charity.
DECA

Adviser: Mrs. Sanford

DECA is a competitive business organization to allow students to
prepare as emerging leaders and entrepreneurs to be college and career
ready through discussion, continued exploration of the business world, and
have a competitive edge of industry knowledge and growth.
Drama Club/Performances

Adviser: Mrs. Rodocker

Open to students of all classes. This club produces shows throughout the
school year, including the fall play, winter play and spring musical.
Students can learn about theatre on and off the stage. The club also
enjoys meals together, cast parties, improvisation nights and field trips to
area theatres.
Envirothon Team

Adviser: Mr. Reding

The ENVIROTHON is designed to stimulate, reinforce and enhance
interest in the environment and natural resources among high school students. The Envirothon tests students' knowledge of soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatic ecology and current environmental issues. In addition, the
Envirothon encourages cooperative decision-making and team-building.
Film Club

Adviser: Mr. Mullins

Club members meet at least once a month to have a thoughtful discussion about films and/or film production. This club is for students who have an interest in producing and editing short films to gain a deeper understanding of what skills are needed to pursue a career in film. Students share resources, ideas, etc. to be able to produce their own films and show their appreciation for the artform.

Fishing Club

Adviser: Mr. Reding

This club is for students interested in learning more about all aspects of
freshwater fishing. No previous experience or equipment is needed.
Meetings & outings will focus on education, conservation, recreation,
competition, and service. Come meet others who are passionate about fishing and the outdoors. Share your stories and improve your skills! Fish on!!
Food from the Heart Club

Adviser: Mrs. Sandford

Food from the Heart is a studentled service club dedicated to addressing food insecurity in our community. Members prepare and deliver meals, desserts, and holiday care bags for organizations such as Newark Homeless
Outreach. Each week, students can sign up to donate ingredients, help
cook, or package meals. We typically meet on Thursdays or Fridays to prepare food and then deliver it on Saturday mornings. By joining, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through hands-on service and community outreach.
French Club

Adviser: Miss Doll

French Club is open to all high school students currently studying French and is a fun way to explore the language and culture outside of the classroom. We meet once a month (typically during ACE) to participate in fun activities like food tastings, film nights, crafts, and cultural events. French Honor Society is available by invitation based upon GPA.
Gender-Sexuality Alliance—Student Led

Room Advisers: Mrs. Fortner & Miss Tinnel

We are a space where anyone and everyone can be themselves and have others to support them in their LGBTQ2+ identity and in their life in general. We also welcome straight allies and cisgender allies- people who are not LGBTQ2+ themselves but are willing to be open-minded and respectful.
Industrial Tech Club

Adviser: Mr. Wenning

Interested in the world of technology and manufacturing? Join the Industrial Tech Club! We meet monthly to explore cutting-edge tech, discuss trends in modern industry, and plan exciting activities—like our annual field trip to a local manufacturing facility. Each year, we
also host a fun group event and run a small fundraiser, such as laser engraving cups, to support our projects. Whether you're passionate about engineering, curious about how things are made, this club is for you!

Interact Club

Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.
Jazz Band

Adviser: Mr. Smith

Jazz Band is an audition-based ensemble that starts meeting mid-fall and continues to rehearse once or twice a week outside of school for the remainder of the school year. They perform at various school concerts and around the community. Concert attire is provided by the music boosters.
Key Club

Adviser: Mrs. McDonald

Key Club is a service and leadership organization. In partnership with our local Kiwanis club, we strive to make a positive impact as we serve others in our school and community.
Latin Club

Adviser: Mr. Fisher

In Latin club, current and former Latin students meet outside the classroom to enhance their understanding of Latin language and Roman culture. In addition, Latin club plans and executes fun meetings and community service projects throughout the school year. Activities include: a fall cookout, Saturnalia party, connecting with local charities, and promoting and
directing the Red Cross blood drives. Opportunities for leadership roles and community service will be available to members.
Marching Band

Adviser: Mr. Smith

The Marching Band will meet in the fall four to five times a week after school for practices (usually between 4-7 hours a week) and will perform at the varsity football games, Homecoming Parade, and other performances to be considered by the group. Summer practices in July and a full week of band camp at the school are also necessary. Students will also perform at 5 home basketball games in the winter season. Students must purchase
their own summer uniforms and certain pieces of the fall uniform. Membership in one of the core concert bands is required.

Mock Trial

Adviser: Mr. Wait

The mock trial program is an educational program designed to make students aware of their constitutional rights and responsibilities. It gives our students an opportunity to work with actual attorneys and to participate in a hands-on simulation that develops their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Model UN

Adviser: Mr. Slavinski

Interested in international relations, diplomacy, debate, or simply learning about other cultures and countries? Model United Nations allows students a safe space to discuss topics like gender equality, climate action, global health, and more. Students will act as ambassadors for a designated country and partake in simulations where they must work with others to solve a shared crisis.

Pickleball Club

Pickleball is one of the newest clubs at GHS, this is its second year up and running! We meet once/twice a month on Sunday nights. It is a very non-stress club for people who want to have fun and play pickleball! Everyone is welcome to join!
Poe fo’ Show Club

Adviser: Mrs. Fortner

Poe fo' Show Club is a club where we read Edgar Allen Poe poems/short stories and then watch the corresponding episode in The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix. This club will allow students to compare and contrast the television show to the poems/Short Stories and give us an open space to share criticisms and our love for anything remotely melancholy. The
club will meet regularly and give students the opportunity to share our experiences and further our education in a fun and exciting environment!
ROX (Ruling Our Experiences)

ROX at GHS! What is ROX? Creating generations of confident girls who control their own relationships, experiences, decisions AND FUTURES TRUE LEADERS.
Sand Volleyball Club

Adviser: Mr. Johnston

Sand Volleyball Club will hold periodic meetups (weather permitting) each semester at the Denison sand volleyball courts on Pearl Street. No previous playing experience is necessary to join and play, just an interest in meeting new people and having fun! Sand Volleyball Club is completely free and no additional equipment is needed to participate! Most meetings will include free pizza, water, and a great time!
Sinfonia Orchestra

Adviser: Mrs. Schnabel

Open to Juniors and Seniors who play stringed instruments. Freshmen and
Sophomores may audition for Sinfonia. This class performs at concerts, contests, workshops and informal performances. Musical styles range from Baroque to pop.
Science Olympiad Team

Advisers: Mrs. McKinney & Mr. Johnson

The Science Olympiad team competes against the best Science Olympiad teams in Ohio and the country. Tournaments feature 23 events in all areas of science, technology, engineering, and math. We prepare for competitions in a fun and friendly atmosphere by studying,
experimenting, building, and testing our projects. If you have a keen interest in science and want to go beyond what you're doing in the classroom for a hands-on science experience, you belong to the Science Olympiad team!

Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (Spanish Honor Society)

Adviser: Mrs. Cochran-Mosquera

This national honorary society is open to students who are inducted annually during the Global Language Honors Night in May of each school year based on their grade in the third quarter and their cumulative GPA based on their second year of high school Spanish. SHH is an active organization that has monthly meetings and activities. $5.00 dues.

Spanish Club

Adviser: Mrs. Cochran-Mosquera

The Spanish Club is open to all students interested in Hispanic culture. A student does not need to be enrolled in Spanish class. During monthly meetings, students plan a variety of activities, such as Capture the Flag, Chipotle nights, holiday parties & joint activities with the Latin and French clubs; and service and fundraising for charitable donations through Trick-or-treat for UNICEF, and Natün Guatemala, etc. Dues are $5.00.
Spring Musical

Adviser: Mrs. Rodocker

Each spring, the music and theater arts departments combine to present a musical theater production that includes more than 100 students on and off stage. Past performances have included Chicago, Cinderella, Annie, Seussical, Pippin, Beauty and the Beast, Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie, 9-5, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Wizard of Oz, and Little Shop of Horrors.
STEM Career Club

Adviser: Mrs. Newell

This club is open to anyone curious about STEM, whether you’re planning a future career in science or just want to explore new topics. There will be learning opportunities for a wide range of topics like environmental science, medicine, technology, and engineering, with chances to explore specific interests in depth. There will also be hands-on activities and potential guest speakers and field trips.

The primary responsibility of the individual STAR student is to support and enhance the quality of available educational technology and assist staff and students in its use and integration into the curriculum. STAR students will also have opportunities for personal learning and growth in technology related fields.
Student Council

The mission of the GHS Student Council is to work for the good of all members of the school community and to promote the spirit of GHS through service to the school and the community. The members of Student Council will serve as role models for their peers – academically, behaviorally, & as productive citizens within their school and community.

Sustainable Fashion Club

Bringing students together to spread beneficial habits within the fashion world. We will meet once a month to explore creative and sustainable practices through fun, hands-on activities.
Women in STEM

Adviser: Mrs. Newell

GHS will be home to the first Women In STEM Club for girls of any grade interested in the path of medicine, mathematics, engineering, or any sciences. Modeling after the national organization, we will have shadowing and volunteer opportunities and specialized information for specific interests. The club will be a positive way to further your interests.
Wind Ensemble

Adviser: Mr. Smith

Members earn one credit and meet five days per week for the entire year. The band performs in scheduled concerts and occasional community events. The band also competes in solo and ensemble contest and large group contest. Many musical styles are explored and performed. Members are encouraged to join the various other groups including Blue Steel, Jazz Band, Pep Band, and Marching Band.
Writers-Illustrators Collaboration Club

Adviser: Mrs. Bice

The Writers-Illustrators Collaboration Club is a combined GMS/GHS club that encourages young creators to work together on projects they are passionate about whether a comic, illustrated novel, or any other type of work. At the end of the year, students who wish to participate can showcase their work at the Granville Center for the Arts. The club is held monthly during late arrival in the GMS Library
Youth in Government

Adviser: Mrs. Weaver

The Ohio YMCA Youth in Government program provides high school students with a unique opportunity to become acting state legislators, governors, lobbyists, lawyers, committee chairs. The students simulate all phases and positions of the actual state government.
