Considered by many to be one of the best tennis players, Serena Williams holds the women’s record for most Grand Slam titles in the Open Era.

Her incomparable career leaves many to believe she is the best women’s tennis player of all time.

Winning her first Grand Slam title at just 17-years-old, she has won a total of 23 Grand Slams in her career, along with four gold medals. According to Just Women’s Sports, she’s also won more than $94.6 million in prize money, more than any other women’s tennis player has before. She played her last game on Sept. 3 at the 2022 US Open.

Some argue that Williams isn’t the best when compared to Margaret Court, a women’s tennis player who played before the Open Era and has won 24 Grand Slam titles. But Williams doesn’t let the talk affect her outside of the court.

“There are people who say I’m not the GOAT because I didn’t pass Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles, which she achieved before the ‘Open era’ that began in 1968. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want that record,” Williams told Vogue, “but day to day, I’m really not thinking about her.”

Although Court holds one more title than Williams, she the powerhouse that Williams is.

Before the Open Era, amateurs played on the courts, and Court was someone who participated in tennis during this time, competing against much easier competition than the professionals of the Open Era. In turn, Court has more titles than Williams does, but her record doesn’t mirror her actual skill set compared to Williams’s.

There is no comparison to the unbeatable Serena Williams, even if the statistics say otherwise.
