What motivates you to take so many AP classes?
What motivates me to take so many AP classes is just a very precariously maintained unceasing drive to always be pushing myself to the fullest extent. If I work really hard as a youngin’ now, I try to believe that it will pay off in the future, both directly thru things like getting more credits and money for college, but also indirectly thru hopefully developing a strong work ethic and good attitude.
What’s your goal for the future currently?
My current goal for the future is to attend college at some cool urban environment like Chicago or New York or even THE OSU perchance. My more immediate goal for the future is to pin down exactly what school and what I want to major in, but I’m currently aiming for something medical just because that’s a career that helps people in a very meaningful way as well as paying super well, which are both important criteria for what I want my career to be, but anything is still on the table.
Are there any family or friends who have helped push you to where you are?
I am incredibly blessed and thankful to have an amazing supportive family and extremely close group of friends who not only inspire me everyday through their kindness, ambition, and grit, but also always have my best interests in mind and provide me with a strong support system that gives me the strength to go out and do what I wanna do and push myself as far as I can go.
Is there any advice you have to people trying to take all these classes?
My advice to folks trying to take all these classes is just to remember to take it easy. Always strive to stay in touch with your emotions at all times, and make a concerted effort to give yourself time to reflect on the meaning and motivation for what you’re doing. Start a journal. There’s definitely a very competitive academic culture at Granville, and you just gotta remember that at the end of the day we’re all just kids and you gotta just have fun while you can. There’s no point in any sort of academic achievement if you’re burning out and not enjoying yourself in the process. Surround yourself with people you admire and lead a life of love and as long as you follow your heart you’ll always be where you’re supposed to be. Basically just don’t get lost in the sauce.
What do you take pride in at Granville?
I take pride in so many of the great institutions I’m involved with in Granville. The music department is so genuinely awesome. As is the theater department. I’m pretty much constantly blown away by how important the communities built within these programs are at such a fundamental level for everyone involved in them in terms of developing human skills like hard work and empathy. I literally have no idea where in the world I would be right now if I wasn’t in band and theater and stuff. I also take immense pride in how awesome the impact is for the people outside of these institutions! Our marching band for example just rocks and puts on such killer shows and parades and brings such powerful energy to any event. And those are just the programs I’m involved in. I’m sure it’s the same throughout all the sports and stuff. Granville just does a tremendous job of building community and opportunities for kids to really find themselves and flourish as people, while also inspiring people by having such passion radiate outwardly from the performances and stuff we put on.
