When people think of Christmas they imagine the smell of pine filling every inch of their house. They imagine the quality time spent with family that they haven’t seen in a while. They imagine the crisp winter weather which allows for the cozy season. People imagine the best holiday of the year.
There are so many factors that come with the season of Christmas that other holidays such as Thanksgiving, Halloween, and The Forth of July don’t have. For example, the weather, movies, scents, and most importantly food.
Although some believe Thanksgiving has the best food out of all holidays, I think Christmas easily beats it. Not to say that Thanksgiving doesn’t have amazing food, it certainly does. But Thanksgiving consists of many savory flavors and has a dull color palette compared to Christmas which is full of wonderful colors and features many sweet treats. Gingerbread is a classical Christmas flavor that tastes truly comforting and can even be a yummy scent to fill your house! Another popular treat are sugar cookies that can be decorated with endless possibilities to make the holidays that much more fun.
I believe that Christmas is the best holiday for a multitude of reasons. My first reason is the snowy weather. Halloween can be chilly and The Forth of July is in the summer so no other holidays offer the weather that Christmas brings. A lot of people hate the winter weather because it is extremely cold and can be painful to people that struggle with their joints. But it’s my favorite because once the first snow comes people begin to snowboard and ski which is arguably one of the best hobbies in winter and in general. You can spend time with friends and come in for a break with a nice cup of hot chocolate after a long day in the snow.
Another one of my favorite aspects of Christmas is the music. I participate in orchestra and band at my school and I am always so excited when the holidays roll around so we can start rehearsing ourĀ holiday concert. It is so special to come together with all the Arts and perform magical and uplifting music for our friends and families. From Jingle Bells to Hallelujah, the music brings a warm cozy feeling that mimics the holiday spirit. The music also ties into some of my favorite Christmas movies like “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “The Polar Express,” and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” And not only is my favorite Christmas film “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” but the movie went on to become the sixth highest-grossing film of 2000 when it was released. Further proving my point on how amazing Christmas movies are to me and society.
However, some people believe it’s not the best holiday because its midterm season and the weather is unbearably cold. But why would people complain about this “bad weather” when we can get snow days! It is the only time of the year where we have a chance of missing school based on weather conditions. And with snow days comes no school work, sleeping in, and enjoying the day in the comfort of your home. As for midterms I don’t disagree, the endless studying and the anxiety of the exams take a toll on all the students. But once its over you are officially on break and don’t have to worry about school until next year!
From the delicious food, snowy weather and holiday Christmas music and movies. The season of Christmas defines what it means to enjoy every moment of life and appreciate the joy of family and friends surrounded in holiday cheer. Therefore it will always hold a special place in my heart as the best holiday and time of the year. So I encourage you to explore the Christmas and holiday season and see for yourself the magic it brings to all.
