What inspired you to start your car detailing business while still in high school?
I was looking to start applying and learning new business techniques to make money.
Did you have any experience with cars or entrepreneurship before starting?
No, I did not.
How did you get your first customers?
I cold-called the contacts in my phone.
What’s been the hardest part of running a business at your age?
The hardest part is the limitations I face, like not being able to get insurance and people interpreting me as being unskilled.
How do you balance school, a social life, and running your own business?
Balance isn’t real; it’s a myth. If you want to be great, focus on as little things as you can. It’s the only way.
What sets your detailing service apart from others in the area?
I’m more detail-oriented and willing to put in the work.
What skills have you learned from running this business that you wouldn’t get in a classroom?
Cold calling, making money, and learning how to communicate and work with people.
Have you made any mistakes along the way that helped you grow?
Yes. When I first started, I didn’t know how to budget my money, and I would spend it all without putting it back into my business, which I think slowed my business down. It created limitations.
How has the community responded to a student-run business?
They have been supportive, for sure.
What advice would you give to other students who want to start their own business but don’t know where to begin?
Just start.
What’s the most satisfying car you’ve ever detailed?
My own car, there’s just something about having a clean car.
