The 204 members class of 2025 graduated on May 25 with an impressive list of accomplishments including a 3.4 average GPA, 93% participation in extracurriculars and $4,000,000+ in scholarships and grants.
The event began at 10 a.m. with the orchestra playing “Pomp and Circumstance.” Throughout the graduation ceremony, senior members of the choir, orchestra and Blue Steel performed as well.
Four students spoke at the ceremony: Graycen Vogelmeier, Jordyn York, Connor Hare gave speeches and senior class president Beckett Long announced the students’ names and the moment of silence for former student Tristan Tolloty.
Because the school does not have a valedictorian, students must audition for a speech.
“The audition is a heavily contested race,” principal Scott Hinton said.
Hinton said his favorite part was walking through the gym while students prepare to walk out.
“The excitement and anticipation and knowing they are about to go through that it is something you can not simulate,” he said
For senior Malana Sturgeon, it was a memorable day with her twin Lydia.
“My favorite part was walking and holding hands with Lydia after getting our diplomas,” Malana said.
After diplomas are handed and caps are thrown, many graduates partake in the tradition of smoking a cigar.
The graduation committee begins meeting once a month in January to prepare for the ceremony. Starting in April, they meet every week during late arrival.
Hinton said his main job is to make sure everything is prepared and organized.
