Halloween may be over, but a good horror movie never gets old.
Out in theaters now is “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” which came out October 24, 2015. This is number six in a series of horror movies with each of them connection to the next.
The first one, “Paranormal Activity” came out in 2007 and was a hit. Well, at least everyone either loved it or hated it. The documentary style made the movie more believable and personal. Every scare and noise you felt as if you were experiencing it with the characters. There was never a solid face or ‘monster’ that was causing the haunting which only added to the chills.
The second move, “Paranormal Activity 2”, came out in 2010 and revolved around the sister of the main character in the first movie. The same entity seemed to be haunting this family’s house. The director did an amazing job coming up with new scares and kept you glued to the screen.
“Paranormal Activity 3”, released in 2011 was the story of the two young girls in the childhood home. This brought the last two movies closer together and explained much while keeping the audience on the edge of their seat and ready to cover their eyes. The entity, now known as Tobey, became a well-known horror movie antagonist such as Michael from the “Halloween” movies.
Released in 2012 was “Paranormal Activity 4” and to be honest I was not confident that they could continue to scare me with the same plot line, but amazingly they did. This movie gave me the chills just as much as the others did. The family to was about seemed completely unrelated to the others but in a unseen twist they related them all together keeping me thinking and scared.
In 2014 “Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones” came out in theaters and I could not wait to see the fifth movie, amazed they kept a series of horror movies going for so long and keeping them scary. The movie made me jump and cringe like the others, although it was not as memorable as the others the fact they tied it in to the others was creepy in its own way.
The latest one, “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” came out this 2015 in October. This movie had many more shadows and monster than the other but it kept my eyes glued open and ready to run. This movie also had a bit more to gore, which while I am not usually a fan of I found well done. Keeping the documentary style throughout was a great way to see only bits and pieces of the ghost which in turn gave me more chills than I expected. The script writing was amazing, keeping it comical at the right times and having very real life dialoged. The end of the movie, tying them all together yet again, lead to many loose ends being tied and many questions answered. This was a great feat for the movies for I have seen many horror movies in my life and never have a felt that a series was as well planned and thought out as these. Though of course they left it open enough for the prospect of another movie, which of course I would go see in a heartbeat. So if you’re looking for a good horror movie night pick up the “Paranormal Activity” series turn off the lights and have a good binge movie night.
