Eleven swimmers will compete in the 2022 OHSAA State Championship in Canton on Feb. 24-25.

Seniors Avery Spiker and Avery Koester, juniors Brooke Lemert, Caroline Otter and Hannah Hardin and freshman Lydia Sturgeon will be swimming in the Division II girls championship. Seniors Graham Mayberry and Julian Rodgers and juniors Josh Remlinger and Jacob Teter are swimming in the Division II boys championship. Dakota Baillargeon is an alternative .

To qualify for states, swimmers first need to qualify for sectionals. Then the top 30 qualifiers move onto districts. The top qualifiers from the districts make it to states, according to Wells.

The team predicts that they will have a strong two days at the meet.

“Everyone has been really motivated and they did really well at the district meet which makes everyone’s emotions morale and everyone is feeling good about states since they did so good at districts,” Wells said.

Swimmers also have individual goals.

“My goal for states is to swim a 25 second 50 freestyle at the state meet, which I think I can achieve when I put my mind to it,” Otter said.

Both boys and girls teams earned LCL title. Spiker and Hardin were named Girls LCL Swimmers, Mayberry was named Boys LCL Swimmer of the Year and Coach Tyler Paulsen was named Boys LCL Coach of the Year.
